Lotus won 5 races out of 12, and the world title went to Graham Hill.
The 1968 season was overshadowed by tragedy: in April Jim Clark, who had won the opening round in South Africa, was killed in a non-championship Formula 2 race at Hockenheim. Graham Hill rallied Lotus, winning the next two races, in Spain and Monaco. This was also the season when wings and sponsors’ liveries appeared on the cars.
The title was decided at the final race in Mexico, where Hill, Jackie Stewart in Ken Tyrrell’s Matra and Denny Hulme in a McLaren were all in contention. Hill won and became champion for the second time, and Lotus took the Constructors’ Championship.
