Biography
Champion on two wheels
John Surtees is the only World Champion in both motorcycle racing and Formula 1. Before he switched to cars, he won the motorcycle World Championship seven times in the 350cc and 500cc classes with MV Agusta.
Ferrari and his own team
Surtees came into Formula 1 in 1960 with Lotus and became World Champion in 1964 with Ferrari. He went on to drive for Cooper, Honda, BRM and McLaren, and from 1970 he raced cars built by his own team, Surtees. In all, he made 111 starts and took 6 wins. Surtees died on 10 March 2017.
