Biography
The youngest winner
Bruce McLaren came from New Zealand to join the Cooper team, and in 1959, aged 22, he won the United States Grand Prix at Sebring — becoming the youngest Grand Prix winner at the time. In 1960 he was World Championship runner-up to his team-mate Jack Brabham.
His own team
In 1963 McLaren founded his own team; from 1966 he raced in Formula 1 in cars of his own make, and in 1968 he gave them their first win, at the Belgian Grand Prix. On 2 June 1970 he was killed while testing one of his own sports cars at Goodwood. The McLaren team still races today.
