In 1971 Jackie Stewart, in a car designed and built by the Tyrrell team itself, won six of the eleven races and his second title. His team-mate François Cevert took his first win at the last race of the season, at Watkins Glen, and Tyrrell won the Constructors’ Championship.
Ronnie Peterson finished second in the championship in a March without winning a single race. The Italian Grand Prix at Monza produced one of the closest finishes in history: Peter Gethin in a BRM beat his rivals by a hundredth of a second, and the first five cars were covered by 0.61 seconds.
