Biography

Two titles and “Mr Monaco”

Graham Hill became World Champion in 1962 with BRM and in 1968 with Lotus. He won the Monaco Grand Prix five times — in 1963, 1964, 1965, 1968 and 1969 — and was known as “Mr Monaco”.

The Triple Crown

Hill is the only driver to have won motorsport’s Triple Crown: the Formula 1 World Championship, the Indianapolis 500 in 1966 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1972. He made 176 starts in Formula 1, and from 1973 he raced for his own team. Hill was killed in a plane crash on 29 November 1975. His son Damon became World Champion in 1996.
