Biography
Three first wins
The American Dan Gurney gave three makes their first wins: Porsche at the 1962 French Grand Prix (Porsche never won another championship race as a constructor), Brabham at the 1964 French Grand Prix, and in 1967 he won the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa in an Eagle of his own making.
Champagne and a flap
That same year, 1967, Gurney won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with A. J. Foyt and became the first to spray the crowd with champagne from the podium — and so a tradition was born. He also gave his name to the small upturned tab on the trailing edge of a wing — the “Gurney flap”.
