From 1966 three-litre engines were allowed. Not every team was ready for the new rules, and Jack Brabham came out on top: his car, with a simple and reliable Repco engine, won four races in a row — in France, Britain, the Netherlands and Germany.
Brabham became champion for the third time — the first driver ever to do it in a car built by his own team — and the Brabham team won the Constructors’ Championship. John Surtees fell out with Ferrari mid-season, moved to Cooper and won the last race of the season for them in Mexico.
