Jackie Stewart, driving a Matra for Ken Tyrrell’s team, won six of the eleven races. He sealed the title at the Italian Grand Prix by winning a race in which the first four cars crossed the line within two tenths of a second.
Matra won the Constructors’ Championship — the first French marque to do so. Jacky Ickx finished second in the championship in a Brabham, and Jochen Rindt took his first win at the United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen.
