In 2001 Michael Schumacher won nine races, wrapped up the title as early as August, at the Hungarian Grand Prix, and with his 52nd win, in Belgium, beat Alain Prost’s record.
David Coulthard finished second for McLaren. Williams, now with BMW engines, won four races: three with Ralf Schumacher and one with rookie Juan Pablo Montoya, at Monza. Mika Häkkinen retired after the season.
