Biography
From IndyCar
Jacques Villeneuve is the son of Gilles Villeneuve. Before Formula 1 he won the IndyCar championship and the Indianapolis 500 in 1995, and in his very first Formula 1 race, the 1996 Australian Grand Prix with Williams, he started from pole.
The 1997 title
In his second season, 1997, Villeneuve became World Champion. The decider was the final race at Jerez, where Michael Schumacher collided with him and was later excluded from the championship standings. After Williams, Villeneuve drove for BAR, Renault, Sauber and BMW Sauber; in 163 starts he took 11 wins.
