The 1982 season was one of the most dramatic ever: eleven drivers won at least one race each, and nobody won more than two. Gilles Villeneuve was killed in qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix, and his team-mate Didier Pironi, the championship leader, never raced again after a crash in practice at Hockenheim.
Keke Rosberg won only the Swiss Grand Prix at Dijon for Williams, but he scored more consistently than anyone and became champion with 44 points. Despite their losses, Ferrari won the Constructors’ Championship.
