Biography
Runner-up with Ferrari
Michele Alboreto took his first two wins with Tyrrell: at Las Vegas in 1982 and in Detroit in 1983 — the last win for the famous Ford Cosworth DFV engine. From 1984 he drove for Ferrari, and in 1985 he led the championship until mid-season but finished it second, behind Alain Prost.
Le Mans and the Lausitzring
Alboreto raced in Formula 1 until 1994, starting 194 races, and then moved into endurance racing, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1997. On 25 April 2001 he was killed while testing an Audi sports car at the Lausitzring in Germany.
