Biography

Pole in his first race

Carlos Reutemann started from pole in his very first race — his home Argentine Grand Prix in 1972, for Brabham. He took his first win in South Africa in 1974 and won 12 races in all, for Brabham, Ferrari and Williams.

One point

In 1981 Reutemann led the championship for Williams for most of the season and arrived at the final round, in Las Vegas, one point ahead. There he started from pole but finished eighth and lost the title to Nelson Piquet, 49 points to 50. Reutemann later went into politics and served as governor of the Argentine province of Santa Fe.
