Biography
The road to Williams
The Australian Alan Jones is the son of the racer Stan Jones. He took his first win at the 1977 Austrian Grand Prix for Shadow, and from 1978 he drove for Williams.
The first Williams title
In 1980 Jones won five races and gave Williams the first Drivers’ Championship title in its history; that same season the team also won the Constructors’ Championship for the first time. He stepped away after the 1981 season and later made brief returns to Formula 1 — with Arrows in 1983 and with Lola in 1985–1986; over his career he made 116 starts and won 12 races.
