Biography
Five hundredths
Elio de Angelis took his first win at the 1982 Austrian Grand Prix for Lotus, beating Keke Rosberg by five hundredths of a second. His second win came at Imola in 1985 — after Alain Prost, who had finished first, was disqualified because his car was underweight.
Paul Ricard, 1986
De Angelis spent six seasons at Lotus, finished third in the championship in 1984 and moved to Brabham in 1986. On 14 May 1986 he crashed during testing at Paul Ricard and died in hospital the next day.
