Ayrton Senna made his debut with Toleman in 1984 and that same season finished second in the rain-soaked Monaco Grand Prix. He took his first win at the 1985 Portuguese Grand Prix for Lotus — also in the rain.
With McLaren, Senna became World Champion in 1988, 1990 and 1991. In 161 starts he took 41 wins and 65 poles; his pole record stood until 2006. On 1 May 1994 Senna was killed at the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola — in his third race for Williams.
