Ayrton Senna, in a McLaren with a customer Ford engine, won five races, including the wet European Grand Prix at Donington, where he passed four rivals on the opening lap. Damon Hill, Prost’s team-mate, took his first three wins in a row — in Hungary, Belgium and Italy.
