In 1957 Juan Manuel Fangio drove for Maserati and won four races. The most famous was his win at the Nürburgring: after a long pit stop he clawed back the gap to the Ferraris of Mike Hawthorn and Peter Collins, passed them both and sealed his fifth title with that victory.
The British Vanwall team took their first wins: Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks, taking turns at the wheel of the same car, won the British Grand Prix at Aintree, and Moss also won the Pescara and Italian Grands Prix. Fangio did two more races in 1958 and then retired.
