Mercedes won 5 races out of 7, and the world title went to Juan Manuel Fangio.
The 1955 season shrank to seven races: after the disaster at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where more than 80 spectators were killed, several Grands Prix were cancelled. Mercedes won five of the six races, not counting the Indianapolis 500: four went to Juan Manuel Fangio and one to Stirling Moss, at the British Grand Prix.
Fangio became champion for the third time with 40 points, with Moss second. At Monaco, Alberto Ascari’s Lancia plunged into the harbour, and four days later the two-time champion was killed while testing at Monza. At the end of the season Mercedes withdrew from motor racing.
