Brawn GP Formula One Team
Brawn GP was born in March 2009, when Honda team boss Ross Brawn bought the team that the Japanese manufacturer had given up. The car, built while the team still belonged to Honda, was fitted with Mercedes engines and, thanks to its double diffuser, turned out to be the fastest of all: in the very first race, in Australia, Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello took the top two places, and Button won six of the first seven races.
In the second half of the season the rivals caught up with Brawn, but Button held on to his lead and clinched the world title at the Brazilian Grand Prix, and the team won the Constructors’ Championship in its only season. Barrichello took two wins, in Valencia and at Monza. After the season Mercedes bought the team, and since 2010 it has raced under the Mercedes name.
