Circuit of the past · Fawkham
From 1964 to 1986 Brands Hatch in Kent hosted the British Grand Prix in even-numbered years, alternating with Silverstone. Jim Clark won the first race. In 1976 James Hunt crossed the line first, but two months later he was disqualified for taking the restart in breach of the rules, and the win was handed to Niki Lauda.
The circuit also hosted the European Grand Prix twice. In 1985 Nigel Mansell won it for his first victory, at his seventy-second race, while fourth place clinched Alain Prost’s first title. In 1986 Mansell also won the last Grand Prix at the track, after which the British round settled at Silverstone for good.
