Circuit of the past · Adelaide
For eleven years in a row, from 1985 to 1995, the street circuit in Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, hosted the final round of the season. In 1986 three drivers fought for the title here: championship leader Nigel Mansell had a tyre explode at full speed, and Alain Prost became champion. In 1994 Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill collided, both retired, and the title went to Schumacher.
In 1991 the race was stopped in a downpour after fourteen laps, and Ayrton Senna won what was then the shortest race in championship history. Senna started from pole here six times. In 1995 Damon Hill won the last Grand Prix in Adelaide by two laps from the runner-up, after which the Australian round moved to Melbourne.
