Hesketh Racing
The young aristocrat Lord Alexander Hesketh started out in 1973 with a March bought for James Hunt, and in 1974 the team raced its own car, the Hesketh 308 designed by Harvey Postlethwaite. The cars carried no sponsors — the lord paid for the team himself.
In 1975 Hunt won the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, holding off Niki Lauda’s Ferrari — the team’s only win. After that season Lord Hesketh ran out of money, Hunt moved to McLaren and became world champion in 1976, and the team carried on until 1978 with drivers who brought their own sponsors, but it never matched its earlier results.
