Road to Formula 1
He was born on 8 August 2007 in the south of England and races on a British licence. His surname is Swedish, from his father’s side. He first sat in a kart at five, and in 2021, aged 13, he joined the Red Bull junior programme and won the WSK Euro Series karting championship the same year.
He moved into single-seaters in 2022 in Italian Formula 4, where he spent two seasons. The second, in 2023, was with Prema: six wins and third place in the standings, and at the end of the year he won the Formula 4 race in Macau.
Formula 3 and Formula 2
In 2024 he moved up to Formula 3 with Prema. He won his very first race, the sprint in Sakhir on 1 March 2024, from fourth on the grid, and at 16 became the youngest winner in the series’ history. On 23 June 2024 he won the feature race in Barcelona, and on 6 and 7 July 2024 he won both races of the Silverstone round — a first in Formula 3 history. He finished the season fourth in the standings with four wins.
In 2025 he stepped up to Formula 2 with Campos, having won the Formula Regional Oceania winter series in New Zealand before the season. On 19 April 2025 he won the sprint in Jeddah and, at 17, became the youngest winner of a Formula 2 race. In Barcelona he took his first pole in the series and converted it into victory in the feature race on 1 June 2025. His third win came in the sprint at Yas Marina on 6 December 2025, which he led from start to finish. He finished the season sixth in the standings.
Super Licence and first practice sessions
On 10 June 2025 the FIA World Motor Sport Council, meeting in Macau, granted a request to issue him a Super Licence before his 18th birthday, judging that he had consistently shown the level and maturity required in the junior categories. On 4 July 2025 he drove in his first Friday practice session at a Grand Prix — for Red Bull at the British Grand Prix — and on 24 October 2025 in his second, in Mexico City, in Max Verstappen’s car.
On 2 December 2025 Racing Bulls announced its 2026 line-up: Liam Lawson and Lindblad, who became the 20th graduate of the Red Bull programme to reach Formula 1; the seat had become free when Isack Hadjar moved up to Red Bull Racing. He races with the number 41.
2026 season
He is the only rookie on the 2026 grid. He made his debut at the Australian Grand Prix on 8 March 2026, starting ninth and finishing eighth to score points in his very first race. At the Canadian round he finished eighth in the sprint and qualified ninth the day before the race, but on 24 May 2026 a clutch failure on the formation lap stopped him from taking the start.
On 7 June 2026 in Monaco he climbed from 15th on the grid to sixth — his first top-six finish. On 5 July 2026 he finished seventh at his home British Grand Prix. On 19 August 2026 Red Bull announced that Isack Hadjar would miss the Dutch Grand Prix with a wrist injury: Liam Lawson moved up to Red Bull temporarily, and reserve driver Yuki Tsunoda took over his Racing Bulls car from the Dutch Grand Prix on 23 August 2026. On 6 September 2026 Lindblad finished eighth at Monza, and on 13 September 2026 he was ninth at the new Madrid circuit. His rookie season coincided with the new technical regulations: new power units and active aerodynamics.
